Ladies + Gentlemen, swimsuit season is upon us!
Okay, that’s definitely not the main reason I workout, but let’s all just be real honest here — it’s one of the reasons most of us do! Am I right or am I right?
I love me a good, sweaty workout. I like throwing heavy things around at the gym. Except that one time I threw a 10lb medicine ball as hard as I could onto the ground and it immediately bounced right back up… into my chin. Turns out it wasn’t the kind filled with sand like I thought. Yeah, that one hurt.
I’ve noticed that a great pump-up playlist makes all the difference in the world for my workouts. It can mean the difference between me working out for an hour and a half without even realizing it verses looking at the clock every two minutes wondering when it might be acceptable to leave the gym… or running all the way down to the ocean versus twenty minutes around the neighborhood. {Um, ocean is a waaay better choice!}
And yet most pump-up jams aren’t the most wholesome. I find myself humming lyrics later in the day with lyrics running through my head about “da club”… what?!
The music we listen to is one of the ways we fill our minds. And what starts with our thoughts trickles down to our hearts, or feelings, and then manifests into our outward behaviors and actions.
Proverbs 4:23 says to “above all else, guard your heart, for from it flow the springs of life.” And by that same measure I would argue you could add… “or death.” {Not actual death but things that lead to a spiritual “dying” of our souls from that which God wants for us — holiness, perfection, sanctification.}
And so, I have compiled a “Whole 30 Workout Playlist” — nothing to do with the Whole 30 food program — but it contains 30 Wholesome {see what I did there?!} songs that are sure to fuel your workout AND have you thinking holy thoughts later.
It’s sort of like reading your Bible while running. Except safer.
There are a couple of lower key songs for cooling down/stretching/foam rolling.
