“Today is going to be a great day.”
I’ve said it with a confident smile. I’ve said it through streaming tears. “Today is going to be a great day.”
After listening to a podcast interview with Dr. Daniel Amen, doctor and guru on all things brain and body health, I was inspired to write this affirmation on my bathroom mirror as a reminder to start each day with this attitude—that today is going to be a great day.
Apparently saying this each morning can have a profound impact on one’s mental and therefore physical state. I know that there are days I awake tired, discouraged and full of dread of the day before me, fearful I won’t have what it takes to make it through—much less make it through with grace.
And yet most days that I feel this way actually do end up turning out to be a pretty good day… if not a great one.
I was reading the intro to Habakkuk the other morning, and was inspired by this line written by Philip Yancey and Tim Stafford of the prophet: “No matter how hard life might become, he would rejoice and find strength in the Lord.”
No matter how hard life feels some days, we all have reason to face the day with joy and hope and anticipation for great things to come… because we have the God of the Universe on our side, the power of the Holy Spirit within us, and the gift of knowing that this earth is not our true home because of what Jesus did for us on the cross.
If you are struggling to find joy in the current season you are in, or even if you merely have the midweek blues, I pray you would be filled with the encouragement that this simple affirmation can bring!
