The Secret

I know I’m a little late in the game to The Secret, but I never read the book. And I just watched the movie last night on Netflix.

First off, I’ll say that I really liked this film. (Sidebar: If I am being completely honest, I have to admit I think the actual film could have been done with a little more creative excellence and a little less cheesy acting, but I liked the ideas/concept/content. But I digress.) I have to admit when I first started watching, as a Christian, I was a little skeptical. A lot of the ideas they were talking about and the principles they were discussing sounded awful familiar – like you could replace what they were talking about with faith in God.

I kept thinking, this is all Biblical. They’re just taking God out of it.

But then one of the philosophers said something profound. He was talking about the Universe – that the Universe is made up of energy, and how would you describe energy? It can never be created or destroyed and that it always was and always will be.

And then he said that the same can be used to describe God – that God always was and always will be.

He said these are all essentially the same principle, just with different terminology. Basically, you can just replace the Universe with God or vice versa.

Weird coincidences happen all the time in my life. Like the fact that yesterday morning, before I ever even knew there was a movie made about The Secret, I wrote this in my journal:

“It’s amazing how God can work in such mysterious ways – in such mysterious timing – through conversations, books read, Bible studies, films. He is in all things. People these days are all about what “the universe” is telling them or where “the universe” is leading them… But what about the Creator of the universe?

He made the galaxies of the sky and knows every hair on our head. Certainly it is He who has the power, the sovereignty, the good will for our lives.

I know this to be true.

My prayer for the world is that they would know it, too.”

What are the odds I would write this exact thought yesterday morning that would be an exact point made in this film I would watch (unknowingly) later the same day? Coincidence? Or God working?

I choose to believe it’s God. I choose to believe that the Creator of the universe ultimately has power over the universe.  I choose to believe.

I have so many more thoughts on this, I couldn’t begin to write them all. At least all at one time.

One step at a time.

Which is exactly the basis of the final thought I will leave you with today:

When they were talking about success in The Secret, they said that in order to achieve something great or build something substantial, you don’t need to know every single step of how it will all play out. All you need to know is the end result you want, then focus on taking one step at a time. They even showed a dark road with a light that allowed you to see a few “steps” in front of you.

Is this not Biblical? Is this not exactly what God is telling us in Psalm 119:105?
