Let’s face it: We all want to smell nice. Smells are powerful and have been proven to be directly related to our emotions.
As this article states, “Our olfactory receptors are directly connected to the limbic system, the most ancient and primitive part of the brain, which is thought to be the seat of emotion.” Pleasant smells “can have dramatic effects in improving our mood and sense of well-being.”
Smells are powerful, indeed.
But what’s also powerful are the chemicals in traditional perfumes — particularly in the US.
Did you know:
- France has banned many of the chemicals present in our perfumes?
- The US has an “innocent until proven guilty” mentality in regard to body care products?
- And yet many of these companies have “trade secrets” when it comes to what’s actually in these potions?*
The chemicals in perfumes are harmful to us {and harmful to babies in utero}. With so many chemicals we are exposed to each day, they all add up.
While we can’t control many of the chemicals to which we are exposed in this world, we can control those we purchase, bring into our homes and use on {and in} our bodies.
Thus stands my question: Girl, are you still wearing perfume?!
There’s no need to put chemicals and toxins onto and into your body. You can ditch + switch harmful perfumes for non-toxic, 100% plant-derived essential oils.
- You can get ‘em here.
- You can get cute rollers here or cheap ones here.
- And you can make your own concoctions for a healthy substitute for perfume!
My fave “perfume” blend?
- 10 drops valor
- 10 drops joy
- Top with carrier oil {Young Living has a great one.}
- Roll onto wrists + rub excess on back of neck.
I call it “Happy.” ‘Cause not only do I smell great when I wear it, but I feel great knowing I’m not only not harming my body but improving it. {Valor support emotions + Joy boosts mood—among other benefits for each!}
Remember: What we put onto our bodies goes into our bodies. And we only get one.
Replacing toxic perfumes with natural essential oils is one way we can treat our one body well.
Happy wellness Wednesday, friends!
