I lie in bed and think that maybe if I could just plan out this next month and accomplish all that is on that plan then maybe… And well, maybe I will simply just have a false sense of security.
Henri Nouwen talks about how we must replace our false sense of security with that of the uncertain certainty of a life lived for Christ. And really at the end of the day, while it is good to have goals and make plans and work hard, as Proverbs 16:9 says, “the Lord directs our steps.”
One of my favorite verses that I recite to myself as I fall asleep at night is Psalm 4:8 which says, “I will lie down and sleep in peace, for You alone, o Lord, make me dwell in safety.” And as a little bonus on top, I like to spritz my pillow with my “sleep in heavenly peace“ spray.
Here’s the recipe if you’d like to give it a try! I am not lying when I say it really does help me to sleep in heavenly peace, and I hope you will find the same is true for you.
