chocolatey crunch detox smoothie

Chocolate and detox in the same recipe title? You better believe it!

This smoothie tastes like a chocolate milkshake and is full of only healthy ingredients.

There’s no better time than a new year to detox your body of the bad stuff and fuel up with the good stuff!

And just because it might be cold outside doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy smoothies! I enjoy one almost every day (even if I have to bundle up to do so!) Why? Because it’s the easiest way to get certain nutrients that I would never get otherwise!

Nutrients like chard, maca root powder, and ashwaganda root powder.
Nutrients that help boost my immune system, give me great energy, and keep my adrenals happy.
Nutrients that replenish me after an intense workout and keep my blood sugar stable for hours.

I rotate my smoothie recipes so I’m not consuming the same things every day, but this chocolately crunch detox smoothie is BY FAR my favorite concoction of all and the one I look forward to the most! I hope you enjoy it!

Note: I say “frozen” before a lot of ingredients. This is not necessary; it’s preference. I like my smoothies so frozen you have to use a spoon to eat them. But if you like your smoothies more liquidy, by all means, eat (or drink) what you love!

Disclaimer: I don’t measure anything out when I made a smoothie. I just eye-ball it. These amounts are estimates; feel free to tweak to your own taste preferences!

INGREDIENTS

3/4 cup ice
1/2 cup organic frozen blueberries
4 one-inch pieces frozen banana
3/4 cup frozen organic chard (makes it so creamy!)
1/3 cup canned pumpkin puree (carbs balance out the sugar from fruit)
1/2 cup Harmless Harvest raw coconut water (buy at Costco for a deal!)
1 T. frozen coconut milk/cream (you can skip this, or use straight from the can. I freeze it in these molds, then transfer to a baggie.)
1 scoop Vital Proteins collagen peptides (buy at Costco for a deal!)
a dash ground cinnamon (1/4 t.) (stabilizes blood sugar; organic avail. at Costco)
a sprinkle of Himalayan pink salt (aids in digestion)
1 T. organic raw cacao powder (brain function, mood, and immune booster)
1 t. organic maca root powder (fertility, libido, mood, and energy enhancer; hormone balancer)
1/4 t. organic ashwagandha root powder (decreases anxiety and inflammation)
1 handful organic walnuts (I pre-soak mine to aid in digestion, then store in freezer in baggie.)
1 scoop Naked Whey protein (the ONLY whey protein I consume. so clean. so good. and it comes in a super fun 5 pound jar that Noelle likes to hit like a drum.)

Optional ingredients for toppings:
hemp seeds (super food!)
shredded coconut (healthy fat!)
cacao nibs (perfect crunch!)

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Place all ingredients *except Naked Whey protein* in Vitamix (or blender, but if you like it as frozen as I do, Vitamix is definitely necessary!).
  2. Blend well on high speed.
  3. Add Naked Whey protein. (The reason I add this at the end is that if you blend whey too much, it fluffs up and overtakes the taste of your smoothie.)
  4. Blend on low speed–just enough to mix it in. Do not overblend!
  5. Top with toppings!
  6. SAVOR and ENJOY!

Be happy, be healthy, be whole.

Happy Wellness Wednesday (and every day), friends!
