behind the scenes

// how God is working behind the scenes writing our love story + in our lives //

I found this faded concert ticket on a recent trip back home to Texas. On my bulletin board, there it was—a reminder that God is working behind the scenes.

In December of 2010, I went to the Oak Ridge Boys Christmas concert with my mom, my dad, and my grandmother. I grew up listening to that album each year.

When I began dating Clay, almost five years later, I learned that he, too, had attended that concert with his mom, dad and grandmother the very same year but in Los Angeles. And I learned that he, too, grew up listening to this album each year at Christmas.

In the midst of singleness in 2010, I never imagined my future husband would be attending this very same concert. I never imagined he would even know who the Oak Ridge Boys are. But God did.

Turns out He was writing our story all along, all this time, even before we ever met.

Single friends, are you waiting and wondering? Are you wishing God would hurry up and deliver you a spouse?

I’ve been there. Believe me. I’ve walked the road that feels like aimless wandering. I’ve traveled the paths that led to dead ends. But let me tell you — even those dead ends and long roads that yield weary feet and tired souls? They lead to life, to beauty, to growth in relationship with the God who is writing a beautiful, complex, redemption story.

Take heart. Find wonder. Just imagine all that God is doing behind the scenes, that is yet to be revealed, the pieces He is forming that will all be brought together in time.

“…we know God is working behind the scenes.” – Job 34:20, MSG

“My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I too am working.” – Jesus, John 5:17, NIV

“God works in different ways, but it is the same God who does the work in all of us.” – 1 Corinthians 12:6, NLT⠀⠀

My story may be different from yours. But your story and mine are both part of the greater Story God is telling. And it’s a beautiful Love Story.

It’s one in which the Writer never puts His pen down for a moment.
